Product Manager Interview Questions

10 questions · Product sense, metrics and execution

PM interviews test how you think: understanding users, choosing what matters, and measuring results. There is rarely one right answer — structure and clear reasoning are what get scored.

Practise these out loud with AI

Product sense

Practise these
  1. 1. How would you improve a product you use every day?

What they look for: Pick a user segment, find a real problem, suggest a couple of solutions, choose one, and say how you would measure it.

  2. 2. Design a product for a specific group, such as elderly users paying bills.

What they look for: Start with user needs and constraints before features. State assumptions out loud.

  3. 3. What is your favourite product and why?

What they look for: Go beyond "the UI is nice" — explain the user problem it solves and why its approach works.

Metrics and analytics

Practise these
  1. 4. How would you measure the success of a feature?

What they look for: One primary metric tied to the goal, plus guardrail metrics so you do not break something else.

  2. 5. Daily active users dropped 10% last week. How do you investigate?

What they look for: Check data issues first, then segment by platform, region, version and traffic source before guessing causes.

  3. 6. How do you decide whether an A/B test result is trustworthy?

What they look for: Enough sample size, a pre-set duration, one primary metric, and watching for novelty effects.

Execution and behavioural

Practise these
  1. 7. How do you prioritise features?

What they look for: A clear framework (impact versus effort, RICE) plus judgement about strategy. Give a real example.

  2. 8. Tell me about a time you disagreed with engineering or design.

What they look for: Show you listened, used data or users to decide, and kept the relationship strong.

  3. 9. Tell me about a product you launched that did not go well.

What they look for: Own it, explain what you learned, and what you changed in your process.

  4. 10. How do you say no to a stakeholder?

What they look for: Explain the trade-off with data, offer an alternative, and keep them informed.

Frequently asked questions

Do PM interviews include technical questions?

Often yes, at a high level — how APIs work or how you would discuss trade-offs with engineers. Deep coding is rare.

Can freshers become product managers?

Some companies hire associate PMs from campus. Most PMs move in from engineering, design, analytics or consulting.

What is a case interview in a PM round?

An open-ended product or metrics problem you solve out loud. Structure and communication matter most.
