About you and your studies

  1. 1. Tell me about yourself.

What they look for: Education in one line, then your best project or internship, then why this role. Keep it under 90 seconds.

    Recommended Answer:
Use the Present-Past-Future model (60-90 secs): Start with your current status ('I'm a final-year CS graduate from XYZ with a focus on web and mobile systems'), highlight 1-2 major practical projects or internships, explain technical skills you have demonstrated, and conclude with why you are eager to begin your career with this specific company.
  2. 2. Why did you choose your branch or degree?

What they look for: An honest reason is fine. Connect it to what you enjoyed learning and how it led you to apply here.

    Recommended Answer:
Never say 'None'. Name a subject outside your core comfort zone (e.g., pure theoretical subjects) and demonstrate a proactive attitude: explain how you created study groups, built hands-on mini-experiments, or sought professor guidance to pass with strong fundamentals.
  3. 3. What was your favourite subject and why?

What they look for: Be ready for follow-up questions on it. Never name a subject you cannot answer basic questions about.

    Recommended Answer:
Interviewers want to see grit and curiosity. Frame college as a transition from passive learning to self-driven development: mention leading a technical hackathon team, balancing lab coursework with online certifications, or learning modern frameworks beyond the university syllabus.
  4. 4. Your marks dropped in one semester. What happened?

What they look for: Give a short honest reason and show what you did to recover. Do not make excuses.

    Recommended Answer:
Focus on self-management systems: using tools like Notion, Trello, or calendar blocking; breaking semester goals into weekly sprints; and knowing how to triage urgent exams vs long-term final year project deliverables.
  5. 5. What did you learn in your internship?

What they look for: Describe one real task, what you contributed, and one thing you would do differently now.

    Recommended Answer:
Cite 2 concrete things: a recent product/engineering update from the company, and how their entry-level mentorship culture aligns with where you want your engineering skills to be in 2 years. Avoid generic flattery.
  1. 6. Explain your final-year project.

What they look for: Problem, your approach, your specific role, and the result. Interviewers will dig into any part you mention, so only claim what you did.

  2. 7. What was the hardest problem in your project and how did you solve it?

What they look for: Pick a real technical or team problem. Explain the options you considered and why you chose one.

  3. 8. If you had to rebuild your project today, what would you change?

What they look for: Shows you can reflect. Mention a design choice, a tool, or testing you would add.

  4. 9. Did you work in a team? What was your role?

What they look for: Be specific about your part and how you handled disagreements or deadlines.

Attitude and fit

  1. 10. Why should we hire a fresher like you?

What they look for: Talk about how quickly you learn, with proof: a new tool you picked up, a certification, a self-taught project.

  2. 11. Are you open to working on any technology or location?

What they look for: Answer honestly. Service companies often allocate projects and cities; say clearly if you have constraints.

  3. 12. Are you planning higher studies?

What they look for: If yes, be honest about the timeline. If no, say you want industry experience first. They are checking whether you will stay.

  4. 13. What do you know about our company?

What they look for: Know what they do, their main clients or products, and one recent piece of news.

  5. 14. Do you have any questions for us?

What they look for: Ask about training, the first project, or what freshers usually work on.

Frequently asked questions

What rounds are there in a campus placement?

Usually an online aptitude or coding test, one or two technical interviews, and an HR interview. Some companies add a group discussion.

What if I do not know the answer to a technical question?

Say so honestly and explain how you would find the answer or reason towards it. Guessing confidently and being wrong is worse.

How important are projects for freshers?

Very. For most freshers the project is the main thing interviewers can ask about in depth, so know every part of it.
